All antlered animals shed their antlers naturally each year and grow a new set by the next mating season. This includes deer, elk, moose, and caribou. Thus, antlers are a natural, renewable, recyclable resource that has been used by people for centuries to make tools, jewelry, buttons, and now lighting, furniture, and other home accessories.
When purchasing antler lighting and furniture there are a few very important things that you should know. The first and most important thing to look for in a quality piece of antler art is the grade of the antler. Antlers are graded on their appearence and age. Age being the time they have spent outdoors on the ground. Grade 1 antlers are the most recently shed. They still have a hard shiny surface with no surface cracking with an age of 1-3 months. Grade 2 antlers are a little bit older, 4-12 months, and have developed some surface cracks on the side that was exposed to the sun. Grade 3 antlers are the oldest, 1-2 years, and have surface cracking on both sides. We sell only the Grade 2, unless specified, saving you money while still bringing you a structurally sound, durable, quality product. We have the option to have Grade 1 products made. However there is a 50% upcharge for it and you must call your order in. All of the Grade 2 antlers are hand stained and rubbed to make the most realistic natural brown color. It is important to note that alot of antler companies only use Grade 3.
The next thing you should know about is the construction of the antler art. Our antlers are pinned together with threaded steel dowels which are held in place with super strength epoxy. Each antler is attached to another antler in at least 3 places. The resulting web like structure is incredibly strong. All wiring is ran through the center of the antler as not to be seen. All direct wire and plug in products are UL approved. Light sockets are adjustable with a metal light socket cover. The whole assembly is mounted on a swivel base so you may adjust it yourself.
The last thing that you should know is our standards. We have standardized a few things, that way we can keep the cost down and share that savings with you;
All chandeliers come with 6 foot of chain and 7 foot of cord
All light socket covers are metal, black, and are attached on a swivel base
All lamp shades are sold seprately unless otherwise specified
All trim metals on lamps, chandeliers, and shades are black unless otherwise specified
Please allow up to 6 weeks for delivery due to the fact that these pieces are all handmade when ordered. Also one of the most important things to remember is that no two natural antlers look exactly alike, so your piece of antler art will vary slightly from the picture that is shown. But, that is the beauty of nature and the one thing that makes your piece a one-of-a-kind work of antler art.
